Undying Love

A Chamber Opera by Steve Wallace

Produced in collaboration with WFMT 98.7 FM

Where love is distant, loyalty is questioned. Based on the rap song of the same title by Nas, Undying Love is a tragic love story set in 1960’s Queens, New York. For one night only, immerse yourself in a story that fuses rap and Verismo opera, re-contextualizing the narrative of the song it was inspired by, and based in the wellspring of Black culture.

Undying Love stars soprano Whitney Morrison as Angela, tenor Curtis Bannister as Carlos, tenor Tyrese Byrd as Jesse, and baritone Brian Major as Taylor.

Accompanying this standout cast is the ensemble, D-Composed, a Chicago-based chamber music experience that honors Black creativity and culture through the music of Black composers. The 60-minute performance will be lightly-staged.
